Position Description
The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Centers are residential, drug and alcohol recovery units of the Salvation Army. Program participants come from all walks of life and through voluntary and judicial system referrals. The program is available for men and women between the ages of 18 – 65 and is offered to individuals at no charge. The ARC recognizes that the physical, psychological and spiritual needs of the individual must be addressed before real progress can be achieved. The ARC offers a comprehensive program that includes counseling, work therapy and spiritual development.
The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) is responsible for providing support services to the staff of the Rehabilitation Department and the Medical Clinic. As a team member in the Rehabilitation area, she/he promotes a climate for effective performance and learning through her/his attitudes, willingness to teach and learn and availability to beneficiaries and staff. The CMA will work with a medical doctor one day a week and provide the following services:
*Maintain all beneficiary medical files belonging to The Salvation Army ARC including electronic and hard copy files in accordance with TSA, HIPAA, Family PACT, and other applicable Standards.
*Responsible for the administration of the Medical Clinic which will include the scheduling of patients at fifteen minute intervals, assuring that they are in the waiting area on time, and the education of all patients as to the clinic’s services and limitations and assisting patients in the filling out of medical records.
*Prepare medical records, pull charts, and assure that lab and x-ray reports are in the chart prior to the patients visit. Enter case notes and other pertinent information in beneficiary medical files when required, including any documentation from outside providers.
*Obtain procedure related supplies and assist provider in illness specific treatment.
*Give injections and dispense medication, give treatment and perform medical procedures on direction of medical supervisor.
*Perform procedures when provider is off site according to standing orders, i.e., ear irrigation, feet and toenail treatment, surgical dressing changes, ultrasound to injured area.
*Hold “sick call” hours on a daily basis.
*Perform forensic drug screening.
*Assess patient’s needs and contact provider on-call.
*Assure patients transport to outside facilities as needed.
*Make site visit to patients on Bed Rest or assigned to Limited Duty.
*Record patient log daily and keep records of daily activity.
*Maintain record and data reporting systems.
*Secure Health access cards and give to patients on check out of The Salvation Army program.
*Set up examination room with necessary medical instruments, equipment and supplies.
*Assure that the clinic is always clean and orderly and that sepsis and asepsis protocol is followed.
*Clean and organize all examination room drawers and shelves.
*Takes vital signs and phlebotomy or triage activities as directed by the medical provider. Assists the medical provider as directed in procedures such as cleaning wounds and applying dressings.
*Maintain security of materials, medications, and files of Clinic and Program Offices wherever they are accessed or available.
*Maintain medical equipment and follow all proper sterile techniques.
*Assist with U/A’s and B/A’s as necessary.
*Maintain confidentiality in accordance with established policies and laws.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
*Certified Medical Assistant from an accredited program.
*Knowledge of Windows, MSWord, Excel, and Access with ability to learn additional software as appropriate.
*Good written communication skills.
*Ability to perform multiple tasks efficiently, completing each in a professional and timely fashion.
*Able to perform the physical requirements, which include lifting up to 30lbs, communicate effectively on the phone and in person, travel between various offices in the building and operate basic office equipment.
*Professional judgment and integrity in holding in confidence all information pertaining to patients/beneficiaries, families, and co-workers.
*If in recovery, shall be free of and have had at least five years free of any chemical abuse or dependency.
*Current CPR Certification.
*Have a valid California Drivers License and proof of insurability
